BEACON, NY – Acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Yin Mei presents The Yellow Woman, a groundbreaking performance that pushes the boundaries of dance, visual art, and storytelling.
Hosted by Ethan Cohen Gallery at KuBe Art Center, this special event will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 4 PM in Beacon, NY.
Yin Mei is renowned for weaving together performance, visual art, and rigorous research to create works that challenge conventional artistic forms. The Yellow Woman transcends traditional movement, integrating materials such as paper and ink to transform the body into a powerful medium for interactive storytelling. This cross-disciplinary approach allows Yin Mei to explore themes of embodiment, identity, cultural heritage, and perception—reflecting both vulnerability and resilience.
Through this work, Yin Mei examines the historical and contemporary experiences of Asian women, interrogating race, gender, culture, and colonization. Her innovative process invites audiences to reflect on these narratives and their continued presence in Western cultural discourse.
A Guggenheim Fellow and Fulbright Scholar, Yin Mei has just received the 2024 MAP Fund in recognition of her innovative artistic vision. Her creative work has also been supported by the National Dance Project, the New England Foundation for the Arts, the Asian Cultural Council, Dance/NYC, NYSCA, the National Endowment for the Arts, and others.
This project is powered by The Cohen Foundation.
