BEACON, NY – Ethan Cohen Gallery is pleased to present Yigal Ozeri: The Truth of a Portrait.
This year Americans will head to the polls to cast their vote in one of the most crucial elections to date. The Truth of a Portrait represents elected officials and individuals who have dedicated their lives to civil rights, fighting systemic oppression, racism, defending the rights of women, and protecting our environment.
While Ozeri’s portraits are of individuals, each of them represents a greater constituency - we as the viewer often see ourselves in them as manifest through their political ideologies. These portraits become, in a way, signifiers or an indicator of our own political and moral values.
We invite you to experience Yigal Ozeri’s remarkable series of large-scale photorealist oil paintings representing some of America’s most influential and significant political leaders.
Included in the exhibition are portraits of:
Kamala Harris
Donald Trump
Joe Biden
John Lewis
James Baldwin
Bernie Sanders
Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Barack Obama
Michelle Obama
Bob Woodward
George Floyd
Pope Francis
Martin Luther King
Malala Yousafzai
Michael Bloomberg
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Opening Reception:
Saturday, October 19th, 4 – 7 pm at Ethan Cohen Gallery at the KuBe Art Center, 211 Fishkill Avenue, Beacon, NY.
About Yigal Ozeri:
Yigal Ozeri is a leading photorealist painter based in New York City. Ozeri is particularly noted for his dedication to American themes as a source of subject as evident in his current exhibition. With tinges of pre-Raphaelite aesthetics, Ozeri brings an ethereal and uninhibited sensibility to his paintings. His portraits denote art historical foundations in romanticism, while also offering contemporary notions of sensual femininity.
Ozeri’s work has been exhibited extensively around the world in seminal galleries and museums. His works are in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum Of American Art, Smithsonian Museum Collection, The Mcnay Art Museum in San Antonio, The Jewish Museum in New York, The New York Public Library, The Tel Aviv Museum Of Art, and The Albertina in Vienna, The Eileen S. Kaminsky Family Foundation, Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection, New York, NY, Da-Da Yanko Museum, Ein Harod, Israel, among others.
