[Overseas Chinese News from New York] Yin Mei, a Chinese-American dancer and ink artist, dance professor at the City University of New York, opened her first solo exhibition of ink and wash works, "Living Line", at Ethan Cohen Gallery in Chelsea. The exhibition showcases dozens of unique ink and wash works drawn by the artist using the dancing posture of his body on giant paper.
Yin Mei said that her painting creation process actually used body language to "translate" the illogical and dream-like space around her into traditional Chinese ink paintings. These works originate from her creations during her residency at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York, and aim to reflect the "self-sufficiency" of people's inner world.
Originally from Henan, Yin Mei began to study dance at the age of 14. She came to the United States in the mid-1980s and graduated from New York University. He later became the director and professor of the Dance Department at Queen's College of the City University of New York. He is an accomplished postmodern dance choreographer and dancer. Yin Mei has won the Dance Creator Award from the New York Art Foundation and was nominated for the ALPERT Art Award twice.
